About us

The Knockadoon Folk Liturgy weeks have been running now for 28 years. In 1981 the first Folk Liturgy was held. Its purpose was to help people who are involved in the ministry of liturgical music, with a particular emphasis on Folk Music. The course was designed as an experiential week, where the participants not only learn new music but are also introduced to new instruments and participate in the Liturgy of Morning and Evening Prayer and the Eucharist.

In 2002 year we celebrated 21 years of the course and we were delighted and honoured to welcome world reknowned composer David Haas plus singer and composer Lori True present at the weeks course as special guest directors.

As part of our celebrations we held a special anniversary concert on Friday 23rd August, in St Mary's Dominican Church, Cork City. The concert featured some of the musical highlights of our 21 years of liturgical music.

For the past 5 years, we have been delighted to welcome Paul Tate to Knockadoon as our guest musical director. Paul is a full time composer of Church Music in the USA and has been writing and producing liturgical albums for many years.

Similarly, renowned guitarist and musician, Bobby Fisher joined us in 2007 and 2008 and we are delighted that Paul and Bobby will join us again in 2009 as we celebrate 28 years of liturgical music in Knockadoon.
