Knockadoon On Tour!

Knockadoon 2010 will take place this year in Mount Melleray Scout Camp in Co. Waterford - (www.mountmelleray.com). We are delighted to have been able to source another venue at such short notice and we hope you will join us on our adventure this year.

Just one thing to note - Mount Melleray is much more expensive to hire than Knockadoon. We are also conscious that money is tight in many households so we will be keeping the price as advertised - €190. The team is looking at how we may be able to source some funding to help us offset these costs. However, it may be that we will need to shorten the course by 1 or 2 days to cover the deficit. So for the moment, please plan KAD 2010 for Monday 16 to Saturday 21st.

This will also allow the leaders team a day or 2 on camp before you arrive to get our bearings and be ready to hit the ground running. So - get those applications in - we will keep in touch about final dates.

Knockadoon Music and Liturgy Course

The Knockadoon Music & Liturgy Course has been running for 28 years with the purpose of helping young people involved in music ministry, with a particular emphasis on contemporary church music and liturgy. The course was designed as an experiential week, where the participants not only learn new music but are also introduced to new instruments and participate in the Liturgy of Morning and Evening Prayer and the Eucharist.

Every summer the Knockadoon Music & Liturgy Course course brings together over 150 young people and adults to learn, celebrate and grow not only as musicians, but as ministers of music.546

It all began in 1981 when the Dominicans in Cork began what has become the longest running course in Ireland for  young people in contemporary liturgical music. The purpose of the course is to help people who are involved in the ministry of liturgical music to learn new music as well as having an opportunity to learn new instruments and participate in the Liturgy of Morning Prayer, Evening Prayer and the Eucharist. Over the past 28 years over 3000 people have attended the course.

The course is led by a tremendous team of 20 adults directors and tutors (all volunteers) comprising of musicians, liturgists, youth ministers and composers, who have many years of experience in working in a liturgical setting and bring their own unique skills and talents to the course. As each year passes by, we look to learn from previous years and add to the course material and program.

A Week of Fun

While the week is about learning new music there is plenty of free time for the participants to have some fun, nightly entertainment is provided while afternoon activities ranging fromswimming to football make sure that it will be a week that you will enjoy and participate in fully.   Many long and lasting friendships have been formed in Knockadoon.

Tutorials

We in Knockadoon believe that each participant should be given every opportunity to further their musical knowledge, therefore during the week we provide tutorials for each participant in their area of musical interest.  These various tutorials come under the following headings:

Vocal/Cantor, Keyboard (piano, organ, synthesiser), Guitar, Flute, Percussion, Strings, Composition, Music Theory, Drama and Liturgical Movement. If you play an instrument please bring it along with you, if it is practically possible.

How much does it cost

The cost of the course is €190.  This includes course material, accommodation and all meals.
